How to Undo Stitches (Stocking Stitch)

In this tutorial, we'll show you how to correct a mistake with both knit and purl stitches in your stocking stitch pattern.

Step-by-step guide

 

Purl Stitch

Step 1:

To undo the last purl stitch, keep your yarn in front of your work.

Step 2:

Insert your left needle into the front of the stitch, just below the last one you made on the right needle.

Step 3:

Slip this stitch onto your left-hand needle. And release it from your right-hand needle.

Step 4:

Gently pull the working yarn.

Step 5:

Repeat these steps as many times as needed.

Step 6:

Once the purls are undone, you can continue following your pattern.


Knit Stitch

Step 1:

To undo the last knit stitch, keep your yarn at the back of your work.

Step 2:

Then insert your left needle into the front of the stitch just below the last one you made on the right needle.

Step 3:

Slip this stitch onto your left-hand needle. And release it from your right-hand needle.

Step 4:

Gently pull the working yarn.

Step 5:

Repeat these steps as many times as needed.

Step 6:

Once all the knit stitches are undone, you can bring your working yarn forward and purl the next stitches, following your pattern.

Top Tip

Remember: Bring your working yarn forward before undoing a purl stitch, and take it to the back before undoing a knit stitch.
