Step-by-step guide
Step 1:
Once you've finished knitting the last row of your pattern, leave the stitches on your knitting needle.

Step 2:
Cut the yarn, leaving a tail following the instructions in your pattern.

Step 3:
Thread the yarn tail onto your sewing needle.

Step 4:
Starting at the stitch furthest away from your yarn tail, run your sewing needle through each stitch on your knitting needle.

Step 5:
Once the yarn has been threaded through each stitch, carefully remove the knitting needle.

Step 6:
Gently pull on the yarn tail to gather the stitches together into a closed circle.

Step 7:
Secure the yarn by tying a knot and weaving in the loose end, or by using the remaining yarn tail to sew the length of your hat together.
