How to Crochet Puff Stitch

Tutorial Overview

Puff stitches can be created with a varying amount of loops. The more yarn overs, or loops, you have on your hook before you complete the stitch, the chunkier your puff stitch will be. Follow the instructions in your pattern carefully as these can vary depending on the yarn chosen, hook size used, and desired effect.

Step-by-step guide

Step 1:

Start by elongating the loop on your hook.

Step 2:

Yarn over, then insert your hook into the next stitch.

Step 3:

Yarn over and draw a loop through, and up to the height of the first loop.

Step 4:

Repeat this a second time: Yarn over, and insert your hook into the same stitch.

Step 5:

Then yarn over again and draw a loop through.

Step 6:

Bring the loop up to the height of the previous loops.

Step 7:

Repeat as many times as your pattern states.

Step 8:

Now you'll yarn over once more.

Step 9:

Then pull the yarn through all the loops on your hook.

Step 10:

Close your puff stitch with one chain.

You have now completed one puff stitch.
