Crochet usually begins with a series of chain stitches called a foundation chain. In this video we will show you how to create a foundation chain.

Now that you’ve got your slip knot, we’re going to hold the yarn in our left hand.

Move your hook underneath the yarn to create a yarn over.

Catch the yarn with the tip of the hook by rotating your hook face-down.

Draw the hook through the loop.

You’ve now made a chain stitch. Repeat these steps to your desired length.

And that’s how you make a foundation chain in crochet!
