A lovely feature on Stitch & Story’s founders’ Jen Chan and Jen Hoang by Blogster: The Boulevardiers. Here’s a snippet of our Q&A with them:
Who’s Stitch and who’s Story in your duet? Our name doesn’t represent anyone but rather, an idea. Knitting is a way of embedding our creations with emotions and memories i.e. on all the careful time spent crafting; the cakes and coffee accompanied with curious minds; and the victory of finishing your hand-knitted item, quirks and all! We want every knitted project to be meaningful, whether it’s for gifting or for yourself – there’s just a great sense of achievement in having knitted an item yourself and that adds to the richness of stories behind handmade products and thus, every ‘stitch‘ knitted builds a ‘story‘…!
Knitting…how come it’s now fashionable?
Like other recent boom in household crafts such as baking and sewing, the return to needles and yarn has been seen as a wider backlash against the superficiality of modern life. While manufactured goods can be functional, durable, beautiful, even inspiring, the very fact that they are mass-produced makes them disposable. In its uniqueness, a handmade item such as a knitted item carries the imprint of its creator. The very fact that you’ve made it means no one else will be wearing the same thing as you!

The Campaign for Wool announces the world’s largest showcase of wool at Somerset House!
From 13-24 March 2013, The Campaign For Woolwill be launching Wool House: a showcase of top interiors, fashion designers, artisans and craft-maker all presenting a vision for wool as a modern, versatile, lifestyle fibre.
The entrance of Wool House will be styled like a grand country house, with a carpet inspired by a classic marble floor tile pattern and created by Alternative Flooring Bespoke. Unique pieces will embellish the house including Shauna Richardson’s unusual ‘crochetdermy’Bear that has previously been exhibited at the V&A which will take pride of place in the entrance of Wool House. While Andy Warhol influenced sheep head images will be displayed on the walls of the hall.
There will be three rooms dedicated to fashion, including a space showcasing fine woven fabrics and live tailoring while two others will celebrate the importance of wool in the fashion industry. A series of wool-led designer talks, events and a programme of activities with interactive workshops will be held during the course of the event.
We can’t wait to pay a visit and marvel at the works of top wool designers, taking inspiration for Stitch & Story’snext big project! We hope to see you there~
Wool House is at Somerset House from 13-24 March 2013. Entry is free.

For those who want a faster way of knitting, why not try finger knitting? It requires no needles and takes half of the time when traditionally knitting. Plus it is safe to do on the plane!
This super sleek pillowcase is knitted using an easy yarn-looping technique over your fingers and then sewing all the separate pieces together onto fabric to form the case. Visit their blog (Korean) for more DIY crafts and beautiful interior design: kiss my haus.
