Free pattern to crochet your own love heart decorations

You will need:

• Scrap yarn (any weight)
• A crochet hook (the recommended size for your yarn)

Abbreviations (US terminology)

ch - chain
ch-sp - chain space
dc - double crochet (UK term: tr - treble crochet)
hdc - half double crochet (UK term: htc - half treble crochet)
sc - single crochet (UK term: dc - double crochet)
ss - slip stitch
st(s) - stitch(es)

The Pattern

Make a magic ring, and ch1 to secure.

1st rnd: ch2, 3dc, 3 hdc, ch2, 3hdc, 3dc, ch2 and secure with a ss into ring. 

Pull the ring closed, but leave yourself enough space to crochet into.

2nd rnd: sc into the next 2 ch, 2dc into the next 3 sts, dc into the next 3 sts, (dc, hdc, dc) into the ch-sp, dc into the next 3 sts, 2dc into the next 3 sts, sc into the 2 ch sts, ss into the middle of the ring.

Pull the ends through the middle of the ring to the back and pull the ring tightly closed. 

Tie the ends together to fasten off, and trim ends.

• 3 different colours of embroidery floss 
• A sewing needle
• A plain greetings card
• Glue

Once you’ve created your valentine masterpiece, trim the Aida and glue it to the front of your greetings card. All that’s left is to write a love letter to your valentine inside and let cupid do the rest!
