How to crochet a rainbow

You will need

Abbreviations (US Terminology)

ch - chain
inc – single crochet twice in the same stitch, also known as an increase stitch
rnd(s) - rounds
sc – single crochet (UK terms: dc – double crochet)
ss – slip stitch
st(s) - stitch(es)

Free crochet pattern how to crochet a rainbow

The Pattern

Using Colour A, ch25 and ss into the first st to join rnd. (24 sts)

1st rnd: sc all sts. (24 sts)

2nd rnd: 1 sc, inc, repeat *2 sc, inc* 7 times, 1 sc. (32 sts)

3rd rnd: sc all sts.

4th rnd: Repeat *3 sc, inc* to end of rnd. (40 sts)

Cut Colour A, join in Colour B.

5th rnd: sc all sts.

6th rnd: 2 sc, inc, repeat *4 sc, inc* 7 times, 2 sc. (48 sts)

7th rnd: sc all sts.

8th rnd: Repeat *5 sc, inc* to end of rnd. (56 sts)

Cut Colour B, join in Colour C.

9th rnd: sc all sts.

10th rnd: 3 sc, inc, repeat *6 sc, inc* 7 times, 3 sc. (64 sts)

11th rnd: sc all sts.

12th rnd: Repeat *7 sc, inc* to end of rnd. (72 sts)

Cut Colour C, join in Colour D.

13th rnd: sc all sts.

14th rnd: 4 sc, inc, repeat *8 sc, inc* 7 times, 4 sc. (80 sts)

15th rnd: sc all sts.

16th rnd: Repeat *9 sc, inc* to end of rnd. (88 sts)

Fold the rainbow in half and seam together by ss 44 sts along the long edge with Colour D. Seam the remaining open side using Colour A and ss 12 sts along the arc of the rainbow.

Add pom-poms or tassels by sewing them to the ends of the rainbow for added decoration.
