Step-by-step guide
Step 1:
With the yarn at the front of your work, insert your right needle into the next stitch as if to purl.
Step 2:
Make a purl stitch, but don't slip the stitch off your left-hand needle just yet!
Step 3:
Keep the yarn in front of your work. Bring the needle to the back and insert it through the back leg of the same stitch from left to right.
Step 4:
Wrap the yarn around the tip of the right needle anticlockwise.
Step 5:
Draw the loop through the back of the stitch.
Step 6:
You'll now have 2 new stitches on your right-hand needle, and can now slide the stitch off your left-hand needle.
And that's how you purl into the front and back of a stitch!
